エチュード（練習曲）という言葉には、退屈で面白くない響きがあることを否めませんね。

それを必修教材にしている教室とそうでない教室があり、どちらが良いとは一概に言えません。

個人のご目的に応じて、それに適した練習曲を選ぶというのが、一般的な方法と言えるでしょう。

An etude (pronounced A-tood) is a special kind of piece that is written for a particular instrument.

The name comes from a French word for study. Etudes are designed to help the musicians improve their playing.

For every instrument there are certain things that take extra practice to master. An etude usually focuses on one one problem.

For example there are etudes that helps students learn to play even scale passages, smooth arpeggios, or hand crossings.
