Facing musical facts 顔と音楽
コンクールなど音楽イベントが盛んな季節となりました。 参加される皆さんが一生懸命に練習して来て下さるので、毎日のレッスンがとても楽しいです。
でも、練習することだけに捉われてしまうと、次のようなことが起きてしまうかも知れません！コンクールの講評の中に、「鍵盤を見つめないで！」と書かれた生徒がいます。
それで、レッスンの中でその子が演奏しているところを、動画で録りました。そして本人と一緒に、それを解析しましたところ、本人の口から、「顔が悪い！」という感想が飛び出したので、二人で大笑いしました！
音楽を楽しむ余裕がないと、表情が険しくなるため、結果的に身体も柔軟性を失い、その影響が顔と音に出てしまうのです。いつもリラックスして、楽しくピアノに向かいたいものですね。

One of the comments from a judge at a piano competition was, “Do not stare at the keys.” The student in question is talented and can perform difficult pieces, but she tends to be kind of rigid.
While she was playing an agitated sonata by Beethoven in one of her lessons, I recorded her performance and showed her the video.
I asked for her own impression, she said ‘Wow! How scary I look!” Since the composition itself has a serious atmosphere, the sound was not terrible, but her composure was still too tense.
This student has a plan to submit a recorded audition to enter a university in the US. While the ideal way is to go to the US to play in front of the examiners, some universities allow international students to send recordings instead. As one of the universities she wants to attend allow only videos/mp4, her visual impression is very important.
I told her , “Your music is good but for your face…..”, she laughed cheerfully, and said “I may fail due to my face!” Her smile is so cute and attractive that I hope she can relax and give off this kind of positive impression when she plays the piano, too!
