大人のおたまじゃくし Adult Tadpoles
これは、数日前のレッスンの中での出来事です。
「速くて弾むようなパッセージ」を練習していた男の子が弾いていた曲の解説に、「恰もカエルが飛び跳ねているように。」と書いてありましたので、私がそれに、「最も弱く弾かれるべき部分は、赤ちゃんガエルのように弾いてみよう！」と自分の言葉を加えました。
すると、その子はすかさず、「赤ちゃんガエルはオタマジャクシだよ？！」と言い返してきました。（汗！）
この愉快な場面は、エリック・サティ(1866-1925)によって書かれた別のピアノ曲「（干からびた）なまこの胎児」の話へと発展してゆきました。ご存知のように、哺乳類でない「なまこ」に「胎児」などある訳がありません。
それで、「このタイトルは冗談に過ぎない」という結論に達したのですが、実はちょっと気になってしまい、レッスンが終わった後、それについて調べてみました。
すると、次のような非常に興味深いことを発見しました。「なまこの幼生の中には、いくらか、ある程度成長するまで母親の体内で過ごす者がいる」のだそうです。
生物学的な根拠や作曲者の意図は別として、その状態は「胎児」に近いように、私には感じられました。
それで、次は「なまこ」ではなく、その生徒が指摘した「カエル」について知りたくなりました。
という訳で、「大人のオタマジャクシが存在するか否か」ということを探ってみたところ、「思いもよらなかったカエルの側面」について語っている新聞記事に出会うことが出来ました。
人間がカエルに与えている影響がこんなにも大きいことを知ると、ショックのあまり、嘆息さえ出て来ました・・・！

Adult Tadpoles Part 1
A couple of days ago one of my students was practicing a quick and bouncy passage on the piano. It had the interesting written instruction, “play like a leaping frog!”. So, I added my own words to it“You can play this softest part like a baby frog.” The boy told me dubiously “Baby frogs should be tadpoles, not frogs….”
This funny topic brought us round to discussing another piano piece by Eric Satie (1866-1925) entitled ’d'holothurie’ meaning ‘Desiccated sea cucumber embryos’. As you know, only mammals have a reproductive the system involving the embryo/fetus. So, we concluded that this music was intedned as being funny/a joke.
However, I heard some intriguing information that some larvae spend days in their mothers’ bodies till they grow to some extent. Apart from both a biological aspect and the composer’s intention, I thought they are kind of similar to embryo/fetus!
Likewise, I tried to find out whether adult tadpoles exist, and finally found an article about adult tadpoles that will be in my future blogs!
