¥13,000,000. How does that sound? Unattainable? That’s what a father of two of my students thought.
He wanted to gift his twin daughters an actual acoustic piano. They had been playing an electronic piano. He reckoned ¥1,000,000 would do the trick. It wasn’t even close.
I recommended a Yamaha (YUS5). At ¥1,500,000, it’s an excellent price for an upright piano of suitable quality.
After the ¥13,000,000 Bösendorfer that shaped his expectations of what an acoustic should sound like he was having none of that.
He was caught between the practical and fanciful.
He wanted to give up. There were numerous family meetings and showroom visits. In one ear he heard, “Raising twins is going cost more than you can afford.” “High end pianos require meticulous care.” And in the other ear he heard the Bösendorfer. Such sweet unforgettable sound.
What would you have whispered in his ear?
What did I whisper? Well, I uttered the following, “S” “U” “7”.
Whisper what now?
SU7 is a Yamaha that emulates the sound of those high end European models that so allured the dad.
The price was ... The price was manageable. The sound of the SU7, quite enviable.
The SU7 is the whisper that won.
Built to order and amid the omnipresent COVID 19, it took ten months to arrive.
He no longer hears the Bösendorfer. Instead he hears the progress that his darling twins are making on the keys of the just right Yamaha.
昨年秋にヤマハアップライトピアノSU7を注文なさったご家庭に、今月やっと納品されることが決まりました。
受注生産ですから、通常でもオーダーから8カ月かかるのですが、今年は新型コロナウィルスの問題があったためか、10か月を要しました。待ち遠しかったと思いますが、良かったです！
双子のお子さんをお持ちのご両親の最初のご予算は、１００万円でした。
それで、私はヤマハYUS3という「中の上グレード」のアップライトピアノを推薦しました。
他の機種も試弾したいとのご意向だったので、「YUS5という150万円程度（外装によって値段が若干異なる）も検討すると良い」と助言しました。
ショウルームでお父様を魅了したピアノは、YUS3でもYUS５でもありませんでした．．．
彼を惹きつけたピアノは、ベーゼンドルファーの中型グランドピアノで、１３００万円超のプライスが付いているものでした。(同ブランドとしては、高いものではありません。）
最初のご予算である１００万円とは、かけ離れています。
彼の耳に囁いた声は、一体、何と言ったのでしょうか？
私は心配になって、ひたすら「S」「U」「７」と彼の耳元で囁き続けました！（心の中で）
私の調律師も「最初は、YUS5か、YUS3でいいんじゃないですか？」と、あまりお金をかけないようにと、説得を試みました。
実際、ベーゼンドルファーに限らず、欧州製のピアノは購入価格だけの問題でなく、メンテナンスが大変で、そのクオリティーを維持するのが大変だからです。
欧州製のピアノを、温度湿度管理が難しいダイニングと繋がったリビングに置くのには、かなり無理があります。
家族会議の結果、最終的に彼を納得させた言葉は、何だったと思いますか？
ヤマハがベーゼンドルファーに勝利したんです！！
SU7の価格も安くはありませんが、ご家族皆さんが納得してお選びになったピアノなので、本当に良かったと思っています。
