今というとき A moment in time
先日、勤務先のインターナショナルスクールでレッスンしていたときのことです。ドアをノックする音が聞こえたので、開けたところ、銀髪の青年が立っていて、自分を覚えているかといったことを聞いてきました。私には彼が誰だか分からなかったので、「ノー」と答えました。
すると、彼は私に、自分の下の名前を告げました。それが、約７年前にオランダに帰国した私の生徒のものだと分かったので、私はつい、「マーク？マーク・ハンクス？！（仮名）」と驚愕の声を発しました。頷く彼の顔には僅かに昔の面影は残っていたものの、私の中には未だに幼い少年でしかない彼を、即座に認識することが出来なかったのです。
初めて私のところに来たときの彼はまだ６才で、銀色に近いブロンドの髪と、無邪気なグレーの瞳がひときわ美しい少年でした。また、抜けるように白い手でピアノを弾く彼の奏でる音は素直で好感の持てるものでした。
当時私は、彼のことを密かに「星の王子さま」と読んでいました！立派な青年に成長した彼を見ることが出来て、感激しています。
今回は一時的な来日だそうですが、将来的には、日本に住むことを望んでいるそうですから、また会えることを望んでいます。
子どもの成長は早いですから、子どもさんにピアノを習わせている親御さん方は、「今」というときを大切して、音楽的成長を見守ってあげて下さいね。
A moment in time
The other day, there was a knock at the door of my piano lesson room. As I opened the door, I saw a young man standing there . “Do you remember me?”, he asked. “No." I had to admit I didn' t.
After hearing his name, I exclaimed “Mark? Mark Hanks?!” He nodded. I could hardly see any traces of the boy I had known in him, so I didn't recognize him right away.
When we first met, he was only 6 years old with beautiful, almost silvery blond hair and gray eyes. His tiny, pale hands would dance over the piano keys when he played.
I secretly called him “The Little Prince.”! I was very happy to see that he had turned into a pleasant adolescent.
He told me that he would only be staying in Japan for a short time on this occasion, although he has hopes to live here in the future.
Childhood is gone in the blink of an eye, so, I hope every parent whose child is learning the piano make the most of this precious time and support their offspring's musical growth.
